Guidelines on what to add to your reading inbox
When deciding reading materials to add to my reading inbox, I prioritize the following:
- materials that are related to my current goals or projects
- materials that are both interesting and dense with information relevant to my goals, projects, and interests
- materials that are time-tested (i.e., classics)
- materials that survey a wide field or several fields (e.g., E.O. Wilson’s Consilience)
- autobiographies or biographies that summarize entire lifetimes of lessons
Having said that, I still add materials to read just for fun as long as I decide whether to read for fun or for learning and read accordingly.
