My creative practice is the expression of my poetics. The practice of my poetics will change as my understanding of my relationship with art and life in general evolves.

My process

Subject matters

In my work, I explore personal thoughts and experiences that arise from my daily life, studies, memories, and walks. I explore living intentionally, finding what is true, looking and curating beauty, and striving to be kind and compassionate. Since two of my most important strengths are appreciation of beauty and excellence and continued freshness of appreciation, I believe that my work also involves appreciating life, the universe, and the underlying unity of everything. I want to focus on these eternities and help others appreciate them more. (See diary entry from 2023-01-18.)

My creative style

While my work is not limited by them, I want to explore the following styles in my work.

  1. Moving between thee realms of cosmic–local–personal (ala Thoreau; see micro then macro).
  2. Inventiveness and poetry (ala Dillard)
  3. Simplicity of language (ala Ben Hewitt and Rofel Brion)
  4. Achieving a surface-level element that it was written outdoors.
  5. Reflecting a genuine and earnest desire to know and understand—not to perform.
  6. My work is religious in nature.

My method

All of my writing begins with a walk. Walking is both the metaphor and method of my art. I collect materials primarily through walking. My goal with walking are as follows:

  1. To walk as much of the Philippines as I can.
  2. To take photos and videos while walking.
  3. To write about my walks.
  4. To publish creative essays (text + photos).
  5. To send intimate newsletters to readers.
  6. To create books out of the above creative artifacts.

My languages

I write in multiple languages, namely Pangasinan, Filipino, English, (possibly Sign Language in the future). I want to make these languages talk to each other and make the most of each without nurturing the animosity each has to each other.
