Outline

Definition

In the talahardin, an outline is a specie of note that brings structure to a set of notes that gravitate toward a single topic.

Benefits

While the strength of the talahardin lies in its nonhierarchical top-down design, hierarchical notes like outlines can still be very useful particularly when getting a bird's eye view of the relationships among notes.

Uses

I use outlines in two ways:

  1. Studying. Outlines can be used in lieu of an tala/index of the best notes on a given topic. Some people online call these notes a map of content (MOC). I've written about how to use an outline to study.
  2. Writing. Outlines can also serve as an early 04 notes/draft for a specific writing project. To use outlines effectively for writing, I follow the advice to maintain speculative outlines and track them in an index of speculative outlines. These preliminary work helps me when I execute my talahardin writing strategy to produce shareable or publishable work.
