Pua
I am at our old house in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan. I was upstairs at the second floor. That house had only two floors. I was looking outside the window, which was a jalousie-type with grills. The jalousies were open, giving me a clear sight of what is outdoors. A strong wind suddenly comes in. The rice fields—green and golden—were being blown hard by the same wind.
On the horizon, the mountains that were once there were gone. A thick gray mist hides them. There seems to be a storm but it isn't raining. Only several trees at the middle of the field stood, swaying and trying so hard to stay put. I was surrounded by my dogs. But the only dog I recognize is Pua—the black and brown chihuahua we had when we were in grade school.
Suddenly, a massive tornado arrives. At the middle of the field, I saw someone still walking, the tornado behind them. I was startled and afraid. I closed the window. Suddenly, the house shook. Then some rain poured, although not as strong as the wind. From inside, I heard an animal flying around the house. It was right in front of the window then above the roof then gone.
I went downstairs. Pua was there. She just came from the outside. I picked her up. I felt that she had a fever. I took her upstairs and brought her inside the bedroom. I raised my mosquito net and placed her there. Then I went in. I lay down on my back and placed my head over two pillows. Pua came closer to me on the left side of my torso under my arm. She lay down, too, on her back, her spine slightly arced and her limbs raised up like a dead bug.
