There is no contradiction between art and spirituality

There has to be no contradiction between art and spirituality. I'm not taking away time from building or nurturing a spiritual life when I do art. This isn't the case and shouldn't be the case. It only feels this way when my art practice is muddled by the chasing of outward achievements: awards, fellowships, publications, and publicity. It doesn't feel this way when I focus on journaling, talahardin, my own walking projects, my own writing projects, and nurturing Nilay and my other communities of writers.
